About Mark Lunde
Thanks for visiting my site. I’ve been planning to build this for a long time, and, well here it is.
What’s here is a history of my artwork spanning about 45 years. Getting images of the old stuff has been a challenge since a lot of it has never been photographed. Many of my earlier pieces are missing and scattered around the world, so…if YOU have any artwork done by me, email me a jpeg or a photo and I’ll post it. Aside from NYC and SoCal, I know there are some sketch books and watercolors floating around Paris France that I would love to see again.-
I have been painting and drawing since I was 9 years old. Not constantly, but when asked by a teacher in third grade what I wanted to be, I answered “I want to be and Artist." (You can imagine the howls of laughter that comment evinced from my classmates.) I went on to The High School of Art & Design in NYC, studying painting with Irwin Greenberg, Max Ginsberg and other working professional artists. I will always be indebted to all my instructors there for their spirit, encouragement and enthusiasm. Those four years propelled me into a lifetime of creativity.
After A&D, I "dabbled" in college, meaning I didn't take it too seriously. I attended NYU, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Graphic Center, School of Visual Arts, and the Art Student's League. While going to school I made money selling my art, framing pictures, and driving a cab.
Eventually, after being aimless and "goofy" in Paris, I returned to New York and began my commercial art / graphic design career.
In my middle adult years, I worked in advertising as an art director, illustrator and package designer. If you want to see my work in those areas, visit your local drug, grocery, hardware or art supply stores. Many of the packages and logos are mine.
Now I am 60, and not doing so great health-wise. I won't dwell on it here but, I have MS, a busted up lower back, and I had a heart attack last year. Kinda slowed me down. I returned to the Atlanta area after my bankruptcy and divorce, because I can afford living here. I also think this is a great place to live, and the women are gorgeous.
Throughout it all I have continued to draw and paint. With few exceptions, everything here has been done from life. The landscapes and seascapes were painted on location, and the figures are from live models. I'm still painting and drawing, just at a slightly slower pace. I'm also getting back to a more "East Coast" frame of mind with more figure drawing, portraiture, and close-up scenes.
I’ve grouped everything here by type— Oils, Works on Paper (watercolor, graphite), Nude Studies, Portraits, there may even be a few woodcuts lurking around. Some are dated but most are not. If there is a date it's probably me just showing off how good I was at such a young age. ;)
Anyway, look around and if you see anything you like, buy a print! You can't lose, there is a 30 day money-back guarantee.
Shoot me an email note if you have any questions.
Thanks,
ML
